De La Salle Academy Board of Trustees Elects Myles B. Amend As New Chair

Myles Amend

The Board of Trustees of De La Salle Academy (DLSA) announced the election of Myles B. Amend as its new Chair, effective October 18, 2022. Amend, a longtime supporter of the School and a member of the Board since 2013, succeeds Co-Chairs Leslie Schine and Ron Rolfe. Schine and Rolfe were named Chairs Emeriti.

Says Head of School, Angel R. Gonzalez, Ph.D. ’99, “DLSA has truly benefited from the profound dedication and leadership of Leslie Schine and Ronald Rolfe. We are grateful that Leslie and Ron will continue their work with us, Leslie as Trustee Emerita and Ron as a member of the Board.” Dr. Gonzalez reflected that, “Leslie and Ron have been terrific thought partners and provided wise counsel to many of us. Ron’s invaluable experience and expertise on all matters of the Board have been crucial during this period of change and evolution at our School. Leslie is truly a significant figure in the history of the School’s success and growth. I am thrilled to work with Myles as we build on the foundation set by our predecessors and endeavor to evolve the School to meet the needs of current and future students of the School. Myles comes with an intimate knowledge of school life, fundraising and board governance. I know that, under Myles’ leadership, DLSA will position itself for future success.”

Myles is Associate Head of School for Advancement and Operations at Trinity School in Manhattan where he has served since 2000. He began his career in education as a teacher at Blessed Sacrament-St. Gabriel High School in New Rochelle, NY. He then served as Director of Development and Finance at Rice High School in Harlem and later as Principal of Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Florida. From 1994-2000, Myles was Deputy Director for Institutional Advancement and Governance at the Museum of the City of New York. He is a graduate of Iona College and holds Masters Degrees in history from New York University and in independent school leadership from Columbia University Teachers College. Myles was on the Board of Directors of the New York City Chapter of the International Association of Fundraising Professionals from 2003-2014 and was Chapter President from 2010-2012. He has been a trustee of West Side Montessori School since 2011 and served as president of the Board from 2016-2020. He is an active volunteer with the Council on the Advancement and Support of Education, serving on CASE’s Commission on Philanthropy and as a founding member of the CASE Independent School Leadership Group. Myles and his spouse, Marc Thomas, live in Manhattan with their 16-year-old daughter, Ashley, who is a junior at Trinity. Says Myles, “It’s been a privilege to serve the School as a trustee for the past nine years and an extraordinary honor to now lead our dedicated Board of Trustees and partner with Dr. Gonzalez as we build a vibrant future for the Academy on the strong foundation laid by Brother Brian, my predecessors, and the Trustees who have gone before us.”
